Solutions Dialogue: Scaling energy transition solutions in emerging markets

Date and Time: 15th November, 10:15-11:15 local time

Venue: Canadian Pavilion, Blue Zone

This year, Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) Co-Chairs, the United Kingdom and Canada, and Bloomberg Philanthropies have hosted the Solutions Dialogues, a global event series on accelerating coal phase-out. With events held in London, Santiago, Jakarta, New York, and Singapore, the PPCA has been gathering solutions to address the challenges of early retirement, just transition and security of supply.

At COP29 the series concluded with a final Solutions Dialogue in the Canadian Pavilion on 15th November. Spotlighting the Americas and the Asia-Pacific, the event highlighted technical and financial support available for emerging economies to phase out coal in line with 1.5°C.

The two regions are crucial for understanding the challenges and solutions to accelerating coal phase-out worldwide. Countries in the APAC region, with their relatively young coal fleet and increasing energy demand, face unique challenges in balancing energy security with the urgency of reducing emissions. On the other hand, countries in the Americas have made significant strides in transitioning from coal and expanding renewable energy, providing valuable insights on how to accelerate the energy transition while ensuring it is just for affected communities.
