The PPCA Summit taking place on 2-4 March 2021 will be the highest-profile discussion on the transition away from coal on the road to the next United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) under the UK’s Presidency. The Summit will convene leaders in government, business and civil society to deliver new commitments, share insights and experience and build relations that will help drive ambitious action on coal phase-out at COP26.

Cheap solar and wind energy increasingly replaces coal powered generation

This will be the biggest stand-alone PPCA event
of the year and a critical touchpoint for members and partners, and all working on climate and energy ahead of COP26. It will bring together the complete range of stakeholders needed to speed up the transition away from coal, including from national governments, regions and cities, banks and investors, energy majors and grid operators, academia and NGO, youth and health groups.

The Summit will provide a comprehensive stock-taking of global phase-out efforts and the financial, technical, and societal approaches that are accelerating the transition. It will include a high-level plenary session to build momentum for the coal-to-clean transition, with national governments joined by regional, city and business leaders to announce new commitments to end coal power generation. It will also offer expert-led sessions at strategic and technical levels, allowing for an in-depth discussion with major coal users who are yet to embark on the shift.

There is much to discuss, as the shift away from coal is gathering pace. The past years have seen more and more companies, financial institutions and governments end categorical support for coal and transition to clean energy sources. Covid-19 has further accelerated this global shift. We are making progress, but as we approach COP26, we know we must do more. Join us at the Summit to share your expertise in global efforts to end coal power emissions in the crucial year ahead.

More information, including on registration and agenda to follow in January.
